Class Descriptions
Too often dancers are taught technique while their artistry and performance skills are left untrained. With the understanding that technique is essential as the dancer's language and means of clear communication, I believe that creative imagination, artistry, and musicality can be developed in tandem with physical skills.
Technique
A 1 1/2 to 2 hour Contemporary dance
class that beings with a series of
center and barre exercises designed
to warm up the body and hone
awareness skills. The class culminates
with across the floor phrase work.
"I've
got a lot to work on now. Thanks for the inspiration."
Heather
June Gibbons, student, Bellingham, Washington
Performance
Skills
Designed specifically for dancers,
this class develops presence, clear
communication, and emotional believability
in relation to an audience.
For residencies longer than two weeks,
Performance Skills will include
Character Skills, and Scene Work from
dance repertory.
"Dance
and emotion are a connection I have come to understand. I wish to dance
and keep this in mind in the future."
- Yumiko
Yoshikawa, Workshop student and Jennifer Muller/The Works Company Member
, NYC
Repertory
For moving beyond classroom exercises
to actual performance material,
this class develops rehearsal skills,
such as speed in learning new
material, as well as offering performance
experience. The dancers will
be taught fully staged excerpts from
current repertory being performed around the world.
"I've
so enjoyed your class because I feel the passion, energy, and changes"
Hisako
Watanabe, Workshop student, NYC
New Choreography
This class offers dancers the chance
to originate roles in the premiere of new work,
as well as be a part of the creation
process of a piece. There is also the option for
original music. The school shares
the rights for future performance with the choreographer.
Please note that this class requires
a minimum two week residency.
"What
a spectacular gift you have given us. I am so thrilled to have shared in
this experience."
Nicole
Manus, Original cast of Leda Meredith's 'Signatures', Western Washington
University
Accelerated
Learning
Building the bridge between mental
understanding and physical ability, this class
includes exercises to improve the
speed and effectiveness with which dancers
learn material and integrate corrections.
Also addressed is the performer's
contribution to the choreography.
"Presented
clearly, and in an accessible way." - Chris McMillan, Workshop student,
and dancer
with the Met Ballet, NYC
Partnering
Lifts, Counterbalance, Timing, Partnering
Repertory, and more.
Usually taught by Ms, Meredith in
collaboration with a male co-teacher.
"I loved
the workshop! You guys were great" - Joanie Mullen, Workshop student,
